And again, this is a selection of some of my favorite music albums that keep me company while I am jogging… What I like about listening to albums in general and especially while running, rather than listening to compilations of songs, is that behind a music album there is a concept and as such it guides your work out, it determines your pace: you can choose your pace according to the album you are listening to, or viceversa.
Hey Folks, this is a 2012 annual report for this blog that wordpress.com kindly prepared for me: just a quick overview on this year’s highlights, which, I must admit, weren’t that many, but still… skylyro’s Top Ten Blog in review, here we go!
Here’s an excerpt:
The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,700 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 7 trips to carry that many people.
In 2012, there were 20 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 43 posts. There were 15 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 453 KB. That’s about a picture per month.
The busiest day of the year was October 19th with 41 views. The most popular post that day was skylyro’s Top 10 Jogging Albums (Reprise).
Hi folks, good to have you on skylyro.com again! If you haven’t visited the site for a while, you might have noticed that it has undergone some changes, a facelift, a new Top 10 Posts structure, as well as some new features should now improve it graphically and from a user perspective point of view.
More than a year has past since my first Jogging Albums Post, but I still listen to a lot of music when I go running in the park… And so, apart from the albums you might already have seen in my previous Top 10 Jogging Albums list, my player now includes several other albums. Here’s a sample of some of what currently is my favorite Jogging Music: Continue reading “skylyro’s Top 10 Jogging Albums (Reprise)”
Beatings and an excess of alcohol: when it comes to staying in a hotel, celebrities behave like the proverbial bull in a china shop. The managers of some luxury hotels can tell us a thing or two about that. These are ten sensational cases of bad behaviour by celebrity guests put together by leading online hotel reservation portal HRS.com
Radisson Blu****, Berlin – Hotel ban for Tokio Hotel
The teen idols of Tokio Hotel have not exactly covered themselves with glory in the past. In November 2005, they celebrated a wild party with groupies in the chic Radisson Blu Hotel in the German capital, ravaged their hotel room and sprayed the guests at a neighbouring party with beer. Since then the musicians have been on the hotel’s black list. They can no longer spend the night in one of more than 420 rooms and suites of the Radisson Blu. This means they also miss out on the chance of seeing the 25-metre high “AquaDom”, the biggest cylindrical aquarium in the world.
Hotel Adlon Kempinski*****, Berlin – Legendary window antics of the King of Pop
In 2002,Berlinwas also the setting for probably the best-known balcony scene since Romeo and Juliet. Hundreds of fans, and just as many television cameras, held their breath as Michael Jackson, in a touch of false paternal pride, dangled his son, Prince Michael II, over the parapet of the classy Adlon Kempinski for a few seconds. The five-star hotel not far from the Brandenburg Gate is one of the best-known addresses in Germany, and without the need for any spectacular performances.
Hotel Berns****, Stockholm – “Snappy” behaviour of a rockstar
For some musicians, we know that rabble-rousing behaviour is seen as part of being cool. However, Guns N‘ Roses frontman Axl Rose went too far in 2006 during his stay at the extravagant Swedish Hotel Berns. Initially, he started a verbal assault on a female guest, before biting the leg of a security guard. He too will find it hard to be able to get accommodation again in one of the boutique hotel’s 82 rooms.
Ararat Park Hyatt*****, Moscow – The unorthodox behaviour of a hotel heiress
It Girl, Paris Hilton, should really know how to behave in an elegant city hotel. However, she proved the opposite in the Park Hyatt Hotel in the Russian capital in 2010 and scrawled her name unceremoniously all over the wallpaper in the suite. The consequence: banned from the premises. Fortunately, there are also Hilton hotels in Moscow.
Malmaison Hotel****, Newcastle – From classy hotel straight to the psychiatric ward
In 2008, the football star Paul Gascoigne was rudely relegated into a lower mental division by his stay at the stylish Malmaison Hotel in the English city ofNewcastle. The hard-drinking sportsman first set off the fire alarm and then tried to strangle a porter, before finding himself going straight into a psychiatric institution.
Hotel du Vin*****, Glasgow – Just be quiet please
It was more a display of arrogance than vandalism from Britney Spears during her stay at the Scottish luxury Hotel du Vin in 2004. The popstar demanded that only she and her entourage could spend the night at the hotel and that all reservations for other guests should be cancelled. The boutique hotel actually offers around 50 rooms.
Sunset Tower Hotel****, West Hollywood/Los Angeles – Fresh cream for coffee on tap
Western star John Wayne obviously didn’t like being alone. Otherwise, he would probably not have brought a real cow with him into the room at the traditional Californian Sunset Tower Hotel. According to Wayne, it wasn’t that he wanted the cow for a cuddle during the lonely hours, but that he needed fresh cream for his coffee. Punk rock veteran Iggy Pop also made sure he attracted attention at the art-deco hotel. During his long stay, he had a penchant for jumping from the balcony into the swimming pool and landed just next to it several times.
The Inn at Irving Place*****, New York City – Devastation caused by a rock singer
TheInnatIrving Place, the boutique hotel inManhattan, also felt the full force of bad celeb manners in 2004, when Kurt Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, behaved without any respect at all for the hotel furnishings. To the irritation of more hoteliers, she demonstrated this habit time and again in other hotels as well.
The Mark*****, New York City – Armadillo as scapegoat
Just a few days ago, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis announced their separation – no wonder, if the actor’s behaviour in his relationship with the singer was similar to when he was with her predecessor, Kate Moss. During an argument with the top model in The Mark Hotel by New York’s Central Park, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star unceremoniously wrecked his suite. He then put the blame for the chaos on a dubious armadillo.
The Plaza*****, New York – Memories, not likely!
In 2010, Charlie Sheen proved that he is not of a retiring nature in the classy Plaza Hotel inNew York. The security services, who had come running up after an emergency call from the woman who was with him, found the actor naked and almost unconscious. Before this, Sheen had wrecked the furnishings in his room and caused several thousand dollars worth of damage.

Cheers folks, it’s been quite a while since my last post, and I’m really happy to be here, writing this year’s first post – apart from last year’s review… At first, I had a different topic on my mind, but as I stumbled upon some video, I just had to make these my next blog post. Obviously, I knew that Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam as a whole had appeared on stage with many artists throughout the years, and some of these performances I had already seen and heard before, but I was so surprised by the many of them I found! Eddie Vedder, whom I probably consider my favorite singer, duetting with some of the most extraordinary artists and musicians of past and present… and this is skylyro’s Top 5 Eddie Vedder Duets: Continue reading “skylyro’s Top 5 Eddie Vedder Duets”
